Introduction

Our client is a leading mining organization with a strong focus on safe, efficient, and sustainable operations. The Quality Manager leads the development and implementation of the project’s Quality Management Plan and provides functional alignment with the organization’s quality and risk governance group. The role ensures that all phases of a major capital project meet required corporate standards and that quality practices are embedded from initiation through completion.

This position requires a leader who is risk-minded, committed to strong quality management principles, and skilled at building effective relationships across diverse stakeholder groups. Success depends on transparency, trust, and the ability to influence decision-making at all levels of the organization. The ideal candidate brings exceptional communication skills, strong critical thinking abilities, and the capacity to work seamlessly across multiple project disciplines and external partners.

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate strong safety leadership and model adherence to all safety and environmental requirements.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve a risk-based Quality Management Plan (QMP) that aligns with corporate standards.
  • Establish, maintain, and enhance the project-wide risk register and risk management plan.
  • Ensure risk management activities are active, effective, and regularly reported to project leadership.
  • Integrate lessons learned into ongoing planning, quality processes, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Identify opportunities to increase value, reduce cost, and minimize project risk across all phases.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate project delivery standards and support assurance processes, including independent reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Define project quality objectives and KPIs, and provide regular reporting on quality performance, risks, issues, and emerging concerns.
  • Develop and communicate project requirements for risk and quality management.
  • Apply contract requirements and the project’s QMP to oversee external quality activities and drive performance.
  • Review quality deliverables such as construction quality plans and supplier quality surveillance programs, and monitor execution.
  • Manage auditing and surveillance activities related to external service providers and contractors.
  • Participate in third-party quality activities to ensure project requirements are met.
  • Collaborate closely with internal teams, engineering partners, contractors, and other project stakeholders.
  • Ensure non-conformances, corrective actions, and improvement opportunities are effectively addressed and closed.
  • Plan, secure, and manage resources for the risk and quality team.
  • Foster a strong culture of risk awareness and quality excellence within the project team.
  • Prepare and refine weekly, monthly, and ad-hoc reports and documentation.
  • Support broader project governance and oversight activities.
Requirements
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in major mining project or equivalent capital‑intensive industrial or infrastructure project (e.g. railways, ports, manufacturing, processing plants, etc.).
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in Risk Management and Quality Management on major capital projects.
  • Degree in engineering, business administration, or other related discipline.
  • Expert knowledge of delivery models for large construction projects and the integration or application of risk and quality management practices on those delivery models.
  • Expertise in developing project quality management plans and conducting audits from varying perspectives, i.e. owner, service provider, or contractor.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent problem‑solving and analytical thinking (both qualitative and quantitative).
  • Facilitation experience is an asset.
  • Expert knowledge and application of project risk management practices.
  • Experience working within an Owner’s team is an asset.
  • Formal training in ISO 31000, ISO 9001, other risk and quality management certification an asset.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Outlook / Word / Excel / Visio / PowerPoint) and SharePoint.
