About Highland Valley Copper
Highland Valley Copper (HVC) Operations is Canada’s largest open‑pit copper mine and molybdenum operation. HVC produces both copper and molybdenum concentrate through autogenous and semi‑autogenous grinding and flotation. Located approximately 17 kilometres west of Logan Lake and about 50 kilometres southwest of Kamloops in British Columbia, the surrounding areas of HVC have an abundant offering of outdoor experiences.
Role Overview8 Month Term – September 2026 – April 2027
For this position we are specifically targeting students who have a background in Chemical or Environmental engineering. The successful candidate will complete vital tasks to maintain the compliance of our Energy Management System. Reporting to the Lead Energy Coordinator, the Energy Co‑op supports initiatives related to energy, water, and greenhouse gas emissions management. This includes tracking energy consumption and emissions courses as well as gathering data for monthly greenhouse gas emissions reporting.
Key Responsibilities- Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
- Conduct data analysis of energy savings and BC Hydro submittals required to access energy bill reductions and incentives
- Support employee engagement for programs such as forward‑thinking ideas and anti‑idling and energy saving products
- Support projects about compressed air systems, water management and energy map automation
- Assist with safety investigations and complete assigned actions from investigations
- Support initiatives to encourage ideas for improving energy, water and greenhouse gas emission management
- Support the tracking of project progress and coordinate with maintenance and operations teams to ensure accurate completion
- Support the measurement and validation studies to prove that projects achieve their targeted energy savings and efficiency improvements
- Analyze data to identify trends, patterns and opportunities for improving energy, water and greenhouse gas emissions management
- Maintain monthly tracking and performance monitoring for greenhouse gas emissions sources
- Work closely with corporate and HVC teams to ensure effective project implementation and employee engagement
- Maintain accurate records of reports, project details, implementation data and greenhouse gas emissions sources
- Background in Chemical or Environmental engineering
- Curiosity and passion about decarbonization, renewable gas and environmental sustainability
- Able to build and cultivate positive relationships with external collaborators
- Ability to communicate with precision in a technical environment
- Able to articulate sophisticated concepts clearly and in a way a diverse audience would understand
- Strong social skills, able to connect with individuals of a diverse set of backgrounds
Motivated and driven to learn - Self‑starter with good problem‑solving skills
- A valid driver’s licence and access to a vehicle for the duration of the co‑op is required
All students will be required to complete pre‑employment drug testing prior to commencing work.
Pay Range: CAD $4,833 - $5,592 per month
