About Highland Valley Copper

Highland Valley Copper (HVC) is Canada’s largest open‑pit copper and molybdenum mine. It produces concentrate through autogenous and semi‑autogenous grinding and flotation. Located 17 km west of Logan Lake and 50 km southwest of Kamloops, the surrounding area offers abundant outdoor experiences.

Role Overview

Reporting to the Senior Geologist, the Logging Geologist will lead core logging operations and ensure the safe, efficient, and accurate collection of geological data from drill cores. The role supports broader geology work, including model updates, data management, QA/QC, and geometallurgical initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as a safety leader, enforcing safety and environmental rules and procedures.
  • Maintain a safe and efficient workflow in the core facility through inspections and housekeeping.
  • Produce accurate, high‑quality drill logs using geochemical and hyperspectral data.
  • Oversee collection of geotechnical data and verify its accuracy and completeness.
  • Communicate drill‑hole progress, observations, and key findings to the geology team.
  • Support data management, including QA/QC of geological and geoscience data sets.
  • Assist in selecting and tracking geometallurgy samples.
  • Update and refine geological models in Leapfrog.
  • Ensure all core logging activities are completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology or a related discipline.
  • Membership or eligibility for Geoscientist‑in‑Training (GIT) or Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC).
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in porphyry exploration or a mining operation.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with effective collaboration across teams.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Proficient computer skills; experience with machine learning applications is a strong asset.
  • Experience with Leapfrog geological modeling software is a strong asset.
Pay Range

CAD $107,000 – $132,000 per year. The offered amount considers relevant experience, skills, and competencies, as well as internal equity.

Working Conditions
  • Location: Highland Valley Copper is a 50‑minute drive from Kamloops. The area offers a small‑town community atmosphere with nearby Merritt, Ashcroft, and Logan Lake.
  • Access: This is a drive‑in/drive‑out role. Most employees commute by car, and carpooling is common.
