TheOpportunity
McElhanney is seeking a Project Hydrogeologist who will take ownership of project delivery while advancing their technical expertise in hydrogeology. The role contributes to technical work, manages projects, and supports the expansion of our hydrogeology portfolio. Mentorship from senior leaders is available, with long‑term growth potential including team leadership.
LocationThis position is based in Kamloops, BC. Exceptions may be made for exceptional candidates. Relocation compensation is available.

- Own the delivery of hydrogeological projects and collaborate as part of larger multidisciplinary teams.
- Conduct hydrogeological assessments including groundwater supply evaluations, aquifer testing, and contaminant hydrogeology studies.
- Support design, installation, and testing of monitoring and production wells.
- Analyze groundwater data and prepare technical reports, figures, and recommendations.
- Lead or support field programs, including drilling oversight, well development, sampling, and hydraulic testing; occasional multi‑day overnight trips may be required.
- Contribute to wastewater dispersal studies, groundwater‑surface water interaction assessments, and recharge analyses.
- Experience with underground dewatering design is a strong asset.
- Mentor junior staff and contribute to knowledge sharing within Technical Service Groups.
- Collaborate with TSGs focused on Water Resources, Environmental, Geotechnical and Infrastructure projects.
- Experience with proposal development/delivery is a strong asset.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or geosciences with coursework in hydrogeology;
Master’s degree is an asset. - Eligibility for registration as a Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) or Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in BC.
- Minimum 5 years of experience, ideally in a consulting environment.
- Familiarity with hydrogeology issues, regulations, and permitting requirements in BC.
- Experience with hydrogeology data management tools and analysis software.
- Strong field experience with groundwater assessment techniques, drilling supervision, well design, installation, inspection, testing, and maintenance.
- Project management experience is an asset.
- Proficiency with data management tools (Excel, Word, etc.) and hydrogeology software such as AQTESOLV, Hydro Geo Analyst, or similar.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
Salary range: $90,000 - $130,000 per annum, based on experience and qualifications. This role is safety‑sensitive.
