TheOpportunity
We are looking for a motivated and passionate Civil Engineer – in‑Training to support municipal engineering projects focused on water, wastewater, and land development. This role offers practical experience across planning, design, and delivery of infrastructure that supports growing indigenous communities while learning from experienced engineers and working closely with multidisciplinary project teams.
The successful candidate will work out of our Kamloops Branch and will support a range of municipal infrastructure and land development projects, including water distribution, sanitary and storm sewer systems, roadworks, site servicing, and related civil works. The Kamloops office offers free parking and a dog‑friendly environment.
What You’ll Do- Assist with planning, design, and delivery of municipal infrastructure projects, including water, wastewater, stormwater, roads, and site servicing.
- Client Facing:
Engage directly with clients, including meetings, correspondence, and ongoing relationship management. - Water and Wastewater Design:
Support technical work related to water distribution, sanitary sewer, wastewater, and stormwater systems, including calculations, drawings, and design documentation. - Land Development Projects:
Contribute to subdivision, site servicing, grading, drainage, and development‐related civil engineering projects from concept through construction. - Design and Reporting:
Prepare and review technical reports, design drawings, cost estimates, specifications, and permit‑related documentation under senior engineer guidance. - Field Reviews and Construction Support:
Participate in site inspections, field reviews, and construction support activities to gain hands‑on experience and understand how designs are built.

Eager to build technical skills in civil design, problem solving, and project delivery, with an interest in water, wastewater, and land development work and exposure to AutoCAD Civil 3D, Microsoft Office, hydraulic modelling, or design software. - Experience level: 0–2 years of relevant experience in municipal engineering, water/wastewater, land development, or related civil infrastructure projects is preferred.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related discipline from an accredited university program recognized by Engineers Canada.
- Registration in good standing as an Engineer‑In‑Training (EIT) in British Columbia, or eligibility to be registered.
- Live local or a commutable distance to our Kamloops location.
- Willingness to take part in field work and occasional travel to sites or nearby communities; a clean driver’s licence is required.
McElhanney offers competitive compensation ranging from $70,000 to $90,000 per annum, tailored to match individual qualifications. The base salary reflected in the posting is an estimate; final compensation will be determined by the successful candidate’s qualifications.
