Job Summary
The Youth Forensic Psychiatric Services Kamloops team is a group of experienced professionals, including administrative staff, clinicians, and testing assistants. This established team is part of a larger provincial service and collaborates with social programs officers, psychologists, psychiatrists, nurses, and contractors to provide direct client care. We value the supportive culture within our team, making a significant impact on the mental health and well‑being of youth in our community.
The Psychiatric Social Worker plays a key role in a team that supports young people in the justice system. They provide mental health assessments and treatment services, including individual, group, and family counseling. Through a multi‑disciplinary approach, the objective is to jointly enhance the capacity of communities to plan and care for challenging youth through a closer‑to‑home focus. This work is critical in promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion by addressing the unique needs of each young person.
Qualifications
Masters in Counseling, Social Work, Educational Counseling, Clinical Counseling, Clinical Psychology or Child and Youth Care or a comparable graduate degree at the Master’s level in a similar subject may be considered.
NOTE:
If your degree was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES). You must provide a basic report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.
NOTE:
Successful MSW-prepared candidates are required to seek and obtain clinical registration with the British Columbia College of Social Workers (BCCSW), within 6 months of having completed the required 3000 hours of supervised clinical practice.
Minimum of one (1) year of relevant clinical experience working within an adolescent mental health environment and providing a wide range of outpatient‑oriented assessment and treatment services.
Must possess and maintain a valid class 5 BC Driver’s license with no restriction or equivalent (i.e., from another Canadian Province).
Preference may be given for:
Two (2) years or more relevant clinical experience working within an adolescent mental health environment and providing a wide range of outpatient‑oriented assessment and treatment services.
Recent experience working in a forensic setting or with a forensic population.
Applicants who self‑identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis or Inuit) with the required combination of education and experience.
About this Position
Flexible work options are available. This position may be able to work up to 1 day at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
A Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Criminal Record Review Act Check (CRRA) will be required.
