Position: Adult Living Support Worker (2026-109)

Community Living Services Full Time Kamloops, BC $29.22 - $33.54 CAD per hour

  • Diploma in Human/Social Service or another related field
  • One (1) year of recent related experience working with adults with moderate to severe behavioural and developmental challenges
  • Or a combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Valid BC Class 4 Unrestricted Driver's License
  • BC Class 5 DL is accepted with the condition of the ability to obtain a Valid Class 4 Learner's Permit within the probationary period

  • A safe driving record
  • Access to a reliable vehicle
  • TB Testing showing free from tuberculosis
  • Physical abilities to provide individuals with personal care and recreational activities indoors and outdoors. Including supporting individuals in wheelchairs and walkers, carrying, lifting, transferring, pushing, pulling, bending, assisting clients safely in and out of bed and bath, and using lifts, and other health equipment appropriately.
  • The following training is required and provided to the successful candidate free of charge. Existing certification is an asset:
    Emergency First Aid with CPR, Mandt-RCT, Safe Talk, Medication Management, CLBC Privacy, Safe Food Handling, Abuse and Neglect Awareness, Anti-Bullying and Harassment.
  • This position requires UFCW membership, and 1.8% union dues are deducted from each paycheque.
  • Background checks through the BC Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General is required.

ABOUT THE JOB:

The Adult Living Support Worker provides care and support to adults with diverse abilities in a home setting. This role focuses on meeting the clients’ limits, implementing behavioral plans, and promoting their independence and well-being.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with individuals, caregivers, and other community professionals to assess residents’ needs and develop and attain individual goals. Adjusts goals and strategies as required.
  • Assesses personal care and health needs and performs care as required.
  • Provides activities that support residents’ independence and encourage meaningful community connections.
  • Provides healthy meals and snacks, ensuring the specific dietary needs of the individuals are met.
  • Manages general household chores, including meal planning and prep, shopping, laundry, yard maintenance, and basic repairs.
  • Administer medication following the agency procedures.
  • Supports residents to advocate for themselves and liaises with social workers, community resources, family, etc.
  • Teaches relationship-building skills while fostering self-esteem, self-advocacy, and healthy lifestyle choices.
  • Supports residents in managing their personal finances as needed.
  • Schedule appointments and transport clients using the program accessibility van. (medical, optical, and dental appointments, family visits, recreational outings, etc.)
  • Recognize and respond to potential risks and emergency situations to minimize harm to clients, staff, and/or the public. Takes proactive measures to prevent potential escalations.
