Addictions Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)

Hours of Work: 8‑to‑11‑hour shifts between 0700 and 2300, nursing coverage required 7 days a week (flexible based on availability)
Position SummaryThe nurse collaborates on client assessments, implements care plans, documents, administers medication safely, builds team relations, liaises with community medical partners, practices cultural sensitivity, and engages in trauma‑informed communication with clients exhibiting complex physical or mental health symptoms. The role also delivers education in weekly nursing lead group sessions and supports direct services across stabilization, acute, and outpatient care for clients in both adult and youth sectors.

- Collaborate on client assessments during intake, throughout treatment, and upon graduation.
- Adhere to care plans while promoting a client‑centered, strength‑based and trauma‑informed approach to recovery.
- Obtain pertinent medical collateral from previous care providers when available and relevant.
- Provide medical care as needed, including first aid to clients and colleagues.
- Participate in physician‑client consultations and follow physician orders and directions.
- Work with onsite Addictions Specialist for Doctor Day and determine when to contact on‑call physicians for urgent medical matters.
- Attend Code Blue scenarios, directing staff roles until medical professionals arrive.
- Update medication lists, administer medications safely following the 10 rights and 3 checks of medication administration as per protocol.
- Liaise with community medical partners to provide holistic, well‑rounded care.
- Assess clients each shift, considering their physical, mental, and emotional well‑being, and document assessments appropriately.
- Collaborate with the nursing manager on tasks and report concerns directly to them.
- Comply with BCCNM Nursing protocols, policies, and procedures.
- Maintain and review client records, daily logs, care plans, and discharge summaries.
- Update discharge summaries with current medications and diagnoses (Axis I‑IV).
- Maintain supplies and ensure the security of the nursing station at all times.
- Promote inclusive interactions respecting LGBTQ+ sensitivities and cultural, racial, religious, and minority considerations.
- Contribute to facility cleanliness and safety measures and assist where needed on the floor.
- Support co‑facilitation and encourage client participation in programs.
- Monitor and report health and safety concerns to the Operations Manager.
- Adhere to ANT Client‑Centered, Human Resources, and Medication related Policies and Procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Drive a culture of trust, open communication, respectful and creative strategies.
- Maintain client documentation complying with BCCNM Guidelines and site Licensing requirements.
- Maintain confidentiality in accordance with the Personal Information Act of BC.
- Participate in problem‑solving and conflict resolution objectively, promoting autonomy and team growth.
- Engage in team‑building activities fostering positive and effective communication; remain open to reflecting, debriefing, and processing distressing events or vicarious trauma.
- Show continuous learning to enhance existing skills and develop competencies.
- Attend regular meetings to identify requirements, areas of success, and trends impacting service delivery.
- Advocate and represent the youth and adult center clinical strengths and needs at internal and external meetings.
Skills and Qualifications
- LPN designation in good standing with a valid BC provincial practicing license from the BC College of Nurses and Midwives.
- Experience working with clients in addiction, mental health, and recovery is an asset.
- Excellent administrative, time‑management, and organizational skills.
- Current Class 5 Driver’s License.
- Current First Aid & CPR with AED certification.
- Naloxone Administration certification.
- WHIMS certification.
- Addictions Care and Treatment Online certification.
- Self‑motivated with the capacity to work independently.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Criminal Record Check prior to commencement of employment.
- Registered Nurse (Nurse Registration) as part of licensure requirements.
