Location: MerrittCommissionaires BC is looking to hire casual on call detention guards to work with us at the RCMP detachment in Merritt.
Shift Times: On-Call - Days, Evenings and Overnights
Payrate: $22/hr
Position Summary: Under the direction of the RCMP Member responsible for Cell Block Operations, Detention Guards are primarily responsible for monitoring the safety and well-being of persons in custody as well as performing additional duties as required. You must live withing a 60 minutes drive of the detachment.
Duties And Responsibilities:
Observe and check prisoners frequently and irregularly, including the use of CCTVAssist RCMP members in prisoner searches, under directionOrganize meals, record prisoner activity, and maintain a prisoner activity logbookMaintain cleanliness and tidiness of cells when vacated or arrange janitor assistanceConduct search of cells prior to occupation and when cells are vacated, reporting any damageMaintain cellblock security by ensuring cell doors are always lockedEnsure all personal effects removed from prisoners are properly securedMonitor fire safety and be fully conversant with fire ordersHandle and dispense laundry itemsDispense approved prescription medications to persons in custody, under supervisionPerform other duties required by the detachmentQualifications –
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities:
Must be 19 years and olderValid Basic First Aid Certificate (Occupational First Aid level 1 or equivalent) or willingness to complete the course prior to being hiredAble to obtain RCMP Reliability Clearance (RCMP Clearance can take 4 – 6 months to obtain)Demonstrated ability to read, write and speak in EnglishVision:
Visual standards are RCMP-V4 (eyeglasses permitted)Mobility Standards:
