Position Summary
We are currently seeking a casual Psychiatric Aide to join our team at the South Hills Tertiary Psychiatric Rehabilitation Centre in Kamloops, B.C. The role involves providing hands‑on personal care and emotional support to patients in a 20‑bed unit focused on rehabilitation and community reintegration.

The candidate must be confident in maintaining a safe and supportive environment, including the ability to handle challenging situations using non‑violent crisis intervention techniques.

The Psychiatric Aide performs a variety of duties in the personal care and emotional support of patients, including assisting with daily living activities, monitoring patients’ health and safety, and supporting therapeutic activities. These duties are performed in accordance with established policies, procedures, standards, and philosophies of the South Hills Tertiary Psychiatric Rehabilitation Centre, Tertiary Mental Health and Addictions Services, and Interior Health.
Aboutthis unit
The unit consists of two 20‑bed sections designed for the treatment of adults with serious and persistent symptoms of mental illness. The program focuses on rehabilitation and recovery, with the goal of preparing individuals for community reintegration. Admission is by physician referral only, and most patients are transferred from hospital to hospital using patient transport or ambulance services.
Scheduling InformationShift times are 08:00–20:00, 20:00–08:00, with shift types including days, evenings, and nights. This is a casual opportunity—hours can vary from 0 to 37.5 hours per week. Many careers begin with casual employment and may lead to permanent or temporary positions.

Qualifications- Grade 12 education
- Resident Care Attendant Certificate
- One year of recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
- Current First Aid, CPR, and Food Safe certificates
- Valid BC driver’s license (Class
5) - BC Care Aide and Community Health Worker registry (include registration number)
- BC Community Care Association (BCCA) registration number
