POSITION SUMMARY

The Youth Outreach Worker provides targeted, developmentally appropriate support to youth and young adults (ages 13-30). This role supports youth in navigating challenges, building life skills, and strengthening their sense of identity, belonging, and purpose.

The Youth Outreach Worker combines mentorship, outreach, and program delivery, working closely with the Community Outreach Worker and other service providers to ensure coordinated, youth‑centered, and culturally safe support.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide individualized emotional and practical support to youth experiencing challenges such as housing instability, substance use, mental health concerns, school disengagement, or limited support.
  • Engage youth through relationship‑based, trauma‑informed, and youth‑centered approaches.
  • Meet youth where they are, including outreach in community settings when appropriate.
  • Act as a consistent, trusted adult and positive role model.
  • Provide mentorship and coaching in areas such as budgeting, personal care, housing stability, goal setting and healthy decision‑making.
  • Support youth in developing confidence, resilience, and self‑advocacy skills.
  • Plan, organize and deliver youth‑focused programs and activities that support social, emotional, physical, and cultural development.
  • Facilitate workshops that build life skills such as communication, conflict resolution, problem‑solving and leadership.
  • Work collaboratively with the Community Outreach Worker to co‑facilitate overlapping life skills programming.
  • Coordinate with schools, educators, healthcare providers, social workers, and other professionals.
  • Participate in shared planning, warm handoffs, and integrated support models.
  • Demonstrate respect for Nlaka’pamux values, traditions, and cultural teachings.
  • Support youth in strengthening cultural identity and community connection as part of overall wellness.
  • Encourage participation in cultural, land‑based, and community activities.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Strong rapport‑building and youth engagement skills.
  • Ability to support youth with complex and interesting needs.
  • Knowledge of youth development, trauma‑informed practice, and community‑based supports.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with internal and external partners.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, and organizational skills.
  • Commitment to culturally safe, strengths‑based practice.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Diploma or degree in Human Services, Social Work, Community Support, or a related field.
  • Relevant experience working with First Nations communities and individuals facing social, economic, or systemic barriers.
  • An equivalent combination of education and lived or professional experience may be considered.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Community‑based role with flexible scheduling.
  • May include evening or weekend activities aligned with youth programming.
  • Exposure to emotionally demanding situations.
  • Must maintain a current and clear Criminal Record Check.
