Position: Support Worker for Homeless Shelter
Join the Canadian Mental Health Association as a Shelter Support Worker in Kamloops, providing essential support to individuals facing homelessness and mental health challenges. This role requires a trauma-informed approach and collaboration with a dedicated team.

At Emerald Centre, a co-ed shelter, you will engage with clients to help them develop vital life skills and access community resources. Your ability to strongly advocate for those in need and to work effectively within a multidisciplinary space will significantly impact their well-being. Flexibility and a commitment to supportive care are essential aspects of this ongoing role.

Key Responsibilities:

• Implement harm reduction strategies while supporting clients

• Help clients build life skills and pursue community connections

• Advocate for individuals with external services

• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team for effective support

• Maintain cleanliness and order within the shelter

Requirements:

• Minimum one-year relevant experience in social services

• Certification in First Aid with CPR and Food Safe

• Mental Health First Aid is a plus

• Lived experience in mental health/dependency is valued

• Successful criminal record check required
