Shelter Support Worker in Merritt

Make a difference in the lives of individuals facing homelessness as a Shelter Support Worker with the Nicola Valley Shelter and Support Society in Merritt. Your empathetic support will assist participants in achieving stability and rebuilding their lives.

In this compassionate role, you will work closely with community members experiencing trauma and housing challenges. As a frontline advocate, you will connect participants to services, assist with housing transitions, and provide crisis intervention. Your work will emphasize dignity, respect, and trauma-informed support for each individual in their journey toward recovery.

Key Responsibilities:

• Serve as contact point for participants, ensuring equitable support

• Respond to crises with de-escalation and harm-reduction strategies

• Provide addiction support guided by harm-reduction principles

• Manage case systems to assist with housing goals

• Enforce shelter policies and maintain a safe environment

Requirements:

• Diploma or experience in Human Services or related field

• Minimum 1 year experience in homelessness support

• Strong crisis intervention skills

• Experience with diverse cultural backgrounds

• Good understanding of community resources in Merritt
