Caregiver Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Resource Team Leader, the Caregiver Coordinator is responsible for coordinating supports for kinship caregivers, traditional caregivers and foster parents to ensure the wellness of children and young people associated with SCFSS. The Caregiver Coordinator contributes to building a caregiver support network which provides culturally safe care for children and young people in our Member Communities and advocates for children and young people in care by enhancing family relationships and wellness through education, mentorship and connecting caregivers to resources.

The Caregiver Coordinator develops positive working relationships with our Member Communities, Elders, and other community partners.

As a member of the SCFSS organization, the Caregiver Coordinator is committed to the collective response to the Call to Action through the four Strategic Directions and supports a pathway of change to exercise nłeʔkepmx and syilx inherent rights. In particular, the Community Caregiver Coordinator champions core elements of the strategic goals of ‘Protection to Prevention’.

OVERVIEW OF DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop and maintain positive working relationships with foster caregivers, kinship caregivers, traditional caregivers, families, Elders, and Member Communities.

Coordinate caregiver recruitment, engagement, education, and support activities to strengthen community-based caregiving and family preservation efforts.

Support caregivers in understanding and responding to the developmental, emotional, behavioural, cultural, and wellness needs of children and young people in care.

Assist caregivers in accessing resources, services, training opportunities, and community supports that promote placement stability and caregiver wellbeing.

Provide information, guidance, and mentorship related to parenting, trauma-informed care, mental wellness, self-care, healthy relationships, and child development.

Promote and support culturally grounded caregiving practices that strengthen children's connections to family, community, culture, language, and identity.

Collaborate with Resource Team staff, social workers, service providers, Elders, and community partners to develop coordinated support plans for children and caregivers.

Participate in family meetings, circles, caregiver planning sessions, and community engagement activities that support prevention-focused and family-centred outcomes.

Monitor caregiver wellbeing, capacity, and support needs, and facilitate timely referrals and interventions when required.

Coordinate caregiver education, workshops, orientations, and learning opportunities to enhance caregiver knowledge, confidence, and capacity.

Maintain accurate documentation, data collection, caregiver files, reports, and records in accordance with organizational, Delegated Services, ISC, and MCFD requirements.

Support quality assurance, reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives related to caregiver services and outcomes.

Ensure confidentiality, privacy, and information management practices comply with applicable legislation, FOIPPA requirements, and organizational policies.

Promote a strengths-based, trauma-informed, culturally safe, and prevention-focused approach in all interactions and service delivery activities.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Strong understanding of caregiver support, child and family wellbeing, family preservation, and community-based caregiving approaches.

Knowledge of trauma-informed, strengths-based, relationship-based, and culturally safe practice approaches.

Understanding of the historical and ongoing impacts of colonization, residential schools, child welfare systems, and intergenerational trauma on Indigenous children, families, and communities.
