Role Description
This is an on-site contract role for a Commercial Driving Instructor based in Kamloops, BC. The Commercial Driving Instructor will provide in-vehicle and in-class training to learners pursuing commercial licenses, including truck and other commercial vehicle categories. Daily tasks include planning and delivering lessons, demonstrating safe driving techniques, coaching learners through maneuvers, and reinforcing road safety best practices. The instructor will assess learner progress, provide constructive feedback, complete training records, and help prepare learners for road tests and regulatory examinations.
The role also involves ensuring that training vehicles are used safely, following school policies and transportation regulations, and maintaining a professional, inclusive learning environment.
Qualifications
Strong Driving Instruction and Driver Training skills, with the ability to explain concepts clearly and adapt to different learning styles.
Solid understanding of Road Safety principles and best practices, including relevant traffic laws and commercial driving regulations.
Proficient Truck Driving skills with practical experience operating commercial vehicles in a variety of conditions.
Training and coaching abilities, including lesson planning, performance assessment, and constructive feedback delivery.
Valid commercial driver’s license with a clean driving record and any required provincial instructor certifications or eligibility to obtain them.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to a respectful, inclusive, and non-discriminatory learning environment.
Strong situational awareness, patience, and risk management skills when supervising learners on the road.
Previous experience as a commercial driver or driving instructor is an asset, as is familiarity with regulatory requirements in British Columbia.
