Mobile Equipment Body Repairer/Mechanic - Corrosion Prevention and Control
This role focuses on repairing equipment body components and providing corrosion prevention and control services to the U.S. Marine Corps. The incumbent utilizes advanced metalworking skills, shop machinery, and welding equipment to restore and maintain military trucks, trailers, and engineering equipment.
Base Pay Range$55,661.00/yr - $55,661.00/yr
Typical Work Performed- Repair and replace damaged body components such as fenders, panels, windows, and truck beds, including mainframe and structural members.
- Fit body to frame, doors, window channels, hoods, trunk lids, and other parts, addressing folds, wrinkles, and large tears.
- Perform corrosion prevention and control tasks, applying corrosion‑preventative compounds, surface preparation, and touch‑up, while accurately identifying Marine Corps category codes and stages of corrosion.
- Disassemble and reassemble equipment, conduct washing, masking, sand blasting, and coating application.
- Operate press brake, metal shears, punch press, roll machine, spot welder, and other shop equipment.
- Determine extent of damage to equipment bodies and select the most economical repair methods.
- Remove, cut, and reshape damaged metal, using welding, filling, sanding, and other techniques.
- Work on a wide range of military equipment including trucks, trailers, and engineering gear.
- Apply significant judgment to solve complex problems, improvise repair procedures, and adapt parts when necessary.
- Use hand and power tools for cutting, shaping, and grinding metal.
- Follow blueprints, diagrams, and other technical documents to ensure repairs meet specifications.
- Maintain safety procedures and proper use of PPE in accordance with OSHA regulations.
- Keep shop areas and equipment clean and operational, performing periodic routine maintenance.
- Occasionally conduct Corrosion Service Team operations, applying CPCs and operating surface preparation and touch‑up equipment.
- Accurately identify Marine Corps corrosion category codes and stages of corrosion when required.
- Travel locally as needed to perform duties.
- Knowledge of metal body construction to assess damage and estimate labor and material requirements.
- Proficiency with welding, fabricating equipment, and sheet‑metal machinery for re‑welding panels and fabricating components.
- Analytical and problem‑solving skills to interpret work orders and blueprints.
- Mathematical competency for shop calculations and sheet‑metal formulas.
- Effective communication skills.
- Valid state driver's license.
- Ability to pass a background check for Defense Biometric Identification System credentials.
- Work in tiring or uncomfortable positions during short, mid, and long durations.
- Move around military and support equipment of varying heights safely.
- Frequently lift or carry items weighing 40 lbs. or less; use assistance or lifting devices for heavier items.
- Work indoors and outdoors under varying weather conditions.
- Potential exposure to burns, skin irritation from chemicals, acids, or lubricants.
- Use company‑provided PPE, including safety goggles, hand protection, respirator equipment, and dust masks or fitted respirators as required.
- Undergo initial and annual OSHA App A, Quantitative Respirator Fit Test.
- High School diploma or equivalent, or a vocational degree.
- Previous metal repair or fabrication experience or training.
- Experience working with military equipment is a plus.
- Knowledge of Marine Corps operations and maintenance practices is a plus.
- Knowledge of the Marine Corps CPAC Program is a plus.
- Pay = $26.76/hr
