POOL LIFEGUARD NF2* (FLEX) MCBH POOLS with Security Clearance Responsibilities
- Maintain order at the swimming pool facility.
- Maintain continuous surveillance of patrons in swimming pools.
- Ensure appropriate headcount of patrons involved in swimming and/or water sport on an hourly basis.
- Call out warnings or take appropriate action for patrons who may have ventured too far or are in imminent danger.
- Provide safety information to patrons prior to indulging in a water sports or recreation water play.
- Supervise patrons to ensure that they are swimming within the safety protocols.
- Protect patrons from hazardous conditions by enforcing safety rules and regulations.
- Perform rescue work, promptly render emergency first aid, and call for medical assistance as necessary.
- Perform water and land rescues equal to the standard of training during a water emergency (e.g., drowning, medical or trauma in the water).
- Manage respiratory and cardiac emergencies, including CPR, bag‑valve‑mask resuscitation, or AED.
- Use and maintain emergency equipment such as specialized kits, rescue bags, backboards, head immobilizers, suction devices, splints, stretchers, oxygen delivery systems, and monitoring equipment.
- Control external bleeding with direct pressure and treat shock.
- Splint and immobilize fractures and dislocations for transport.
- Assess patrons for preexisting medical problems and obtain critical medical history.
- Employ established emergency medical techniques to stabilize patrons for transport to the receiving facility.
- Assist intermediate life support or paramedic staff as needed.
- Administer swim tests; schedule use of lanes and pool space for patrons.
- Instruct patrons on proper swimming pool etiquette and techniques.
- Check for authorized patrons and collect usage fees, if applicable.
- Conduct opening and closing procedures of the facility.
- Spot hazards or potential hazards and take measures to prevent accidents/injuries.
- Report safety hazards to supervisor promptly.
- Complete incident reports and assist in maintaining routine documents and reports.
- Ensure proper disposal of medical waste and potentially infectious materials.
- Maintain cleanliness of buildings and grounds at the pool areas.
- Perform vacuuming, skimming, and routine pool maintenance.
- Check safety of rescue tubes and buoys and perform needed maintenance.
- Operate water pumps and control chemical additives to ensure pool water meets specified standards.
- Apply disinfectant to showers, floors, and decks as necessary.
- Participate in continuous training to ensure proficiency in rescue and lifesaving techniques.
- Provide world‑class customer service with an emphasis on courtesy, assisting customers, and communicating positively in a professional and friendly manner.
- Take action to solve problems quickly and alert higher‑level supervisor or proper point of contact for help when problems arise.
- Adhere to safety regulations and standards.
- Report observed workplace hazards, injuries, occupational illnesses, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps promptly to immediate supervisor.
- Adhere to established standards for supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Must be at least 15 years old.
- Six months of experience as a pool lifeguard is preferred.
- Possess current nationally recognized certifications:
Lifeguard training, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer or equivalent, Standard First Aid or equivalent. - Ability to use and perform maintenance of pool equipment.
- Understanding of and the ability to enforce rigid safety regulations to ensure maximum protection of swimmers.
- Ability to use equipment to take pool readings.
- Must be able to pass an initial and recurrent physical ability test.
- National and state background checks are required.
- The incumbent must be able to lift and carry objects up to 45 lbs independently, while objects over 45 lbs require assistance.
- Work may involve physical demands beyond normal requirements during rescue.
- Work may be performed in settings where exposure to moderate discomforts, high temperatures, and/or adverse weather conditions exist.
