Position: LABORATORY TECHNICIAN

Apply for the LABORATORY TECHNICIAN position at Riverside Healthcare
. The Laboratory Technician processes specimens and performs various laboratory tests to support patient diagnosis and treatment. This role requires teamwork, strict adherence to safety and quality standards, computer proficiency, and flexible scheduling with rotating weekend and holiday shifts.

Essential Duties
  • Receive, sort, aliquot, process, and store patient specimens (blood, urine, tissue, etc.) following established protocols and handling add‑on or send‑out samples.
  • Perform waived and moderately complex laboratory tests in accordance with departmental procedures and regulatory requirements; operate and maintain laboratory equipment.
  • Execute and document quality control procedures.
  • Identify and troubleshoot errors during testing, take corrective action, and report unusual sample or equipment conditions to a supervisor.
  • Accurately enter and manage patient information and test results in the Laboratory Information System (LIS); review and verify results before releasing them to the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Cultivate collaboration with medical laboratory scientists, lab assistants, and other healthcare providers to ensure timely delivery of results and address specimen or order issues.
  • Engage in ongoing education related to laboratory science and complete competency assessments on schedule.
  • Assist in inventory management: order, stock supplies, reagents, and equipment; prepare routine and special solutions, reagents, and stains per established procedures.
  • Adhere to laboratory safety procedures, PPE use, infection prevention standards, and biohazardous material handling; ensure compliance with CLIA and CAP regulations.
  • Demonstrate flexibility with assignments within professional scope, duties, and licensure.
Non‑essential Duties
  • Assist with inventory management, including ordering and stocking laboratory supplies.
Required Experience
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory procedures, techniques, and safety protocols.
  • Basic computer skills with proficiency in LIS a plus.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in performing tests and recording results.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a fast‑paced team.
  • Strong problem‑solving and critical‑thinking skills.
Preferred Experience
  • Minimum 1–2 years of experience in a laboratory setting.
Required Licensure/Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in a biological or chemical science.
Employee Health Requirements
  • Chemicals: multiple acids, bases, caustics, corrosives, carcinogens, formalin.
  • Video Display Terminals: average use.
  • Blood and Body Fluids: high exposure risk.
  • TB or airborne pathogens: high risk when handling patient specimens.
Sensory Requirements
  • Speech: essential for communication with coworkers and customers.
  • Vision: required for computer operation and specimen processing.
  • Smell: related to electrical/fire safety awareness.
  • Hearing: needed to listen to customers and patients.
  • Touch: required for specimen processing and fine motor tasks.
