Overview
The Housekeeper II performs specialized and routine cleaning duties to maintain a safe, hygienic environment within the hospital. Responsibilities include cleaning patient rooms, operating rooms, laboratories, and other critical areas requiring a higher standard of cleanliness and infection control. The role requires a strong understanding of hospital cleaning protocols, ability to handle complex housekeeping tasks, and mentorship of less experienced staff.
Responsibilities- Perform thorough cleaning and disinfection of patient rooms, isolation rooms, operating rooms, emergency rooms, and intensive care units following established protocols and infection control guidelines.
- Operate and maintain cleaning equipment such as automatic scrubbers, floor buffers, carpet extractors, and steam cleaners.
- Execute advanced cleaning procedures, including terminal cleaning, deep cleaning of patient care areas, and specialized floor care tasks such as stripping, waxing, and buffing.
- Sanitize high‑touch surfaces (bed rails, light switches, door handles, medical equipment) to prevent infection spread.
- Handle and dispose of biohazardous waste, sharps, and regulated medical waste following proper procedures.
- Respond to emergency cleaning situations (spills, patient discharges) promptly to ensure patient safety.
- Replenish supplies (soap, paper towels, toilet tissue, hand sanitizers) in patient care areas, restrooms, and common areas.
- Conduct inspections of cleaned areas to ensure compliance with hospital standards and report maintenance needs or safety hazards to the supervisor.
- Assist in training and mentoring Housekeeper I staff and new employees on cleaning procedures, equipment use, and safety protocols.
- Maintain accurate records of cleaning tasks, supply usage, and equipment maintenance in compliance with department policies.
- Participate in continuing education and training to stay current with best practices, safety regulations, and infection control standards.
- Demonstrate flexibility with assignments within professional scope and duties.
- Physical ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Flexibility to work varying shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality.
- Minimum 1–2 years of experience in floor care or environmental services, preferably in a healthcare setting.
- Knowledge of floor care techniques, equipment, and cleaning agents.
- Familiarity with safety and infection control procedures and standards.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to high standards of cleanliness.
- Good communication skills and teamwork ability.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Base compensation within the position’s pay range based on qualifications, skills, and relevant experience. Premium pay such as shift differential and on‑call. Opportunity for annual increases based on performance. Paid leave hours accrued as you work. Protective clothing (goggles, gloves) required for certain tasks.
Physical & Environmental Requirements- Stand 33%, walk 33%, lift 6%, kneel 5%, squat 10%, bend 5%, reach above shoulders 5% of time.
- Lift up to 10 lbs continuously, up to 20 lbs frequently, up to 35 lbs occasionally, up to 60 lbs occasionally.
- Exposure to chemicals (SDS sheets), blood and body fluids, TB or airborne pathogens occasionally during cleaning procedures.
- Protective clothing required: goggles and gloves.
USD $17.66 – USD $21.10 per hour.
