Job OverviewThe Registered Nurse (RN) in Special Procedure Lab at Riverside Healthcare is responsible for delivering safe, efficient, and compassionate care to surgical patients. The registered nurse is responsible for the administration of the total nursing care within the Special Procedure Lab physical environment, administrative structure and according to established policies and procedures.
The ideal candidate will have strong clinical and interpersonal skills, the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently, and a commitment to excellence in delivering high-quality, patient-centered care. Additionally, this position requires flexibility with assignments within professional scope/duties/licensure.
Essential Duties- Perform comprehensive initial and ongoing assessments of patients post-procedure, monitoring vital signs, level of consciousness, pain levels, and overall recovery progress.
- Recognize and respond to changes in patient condition, implementing interventions as needed, and escalate care to the appropriate medical providers when necessary.
- Develop and implement individualized care plans based on the physical, emotional, and psychological needs of the patient in collaboration with the healthcare team.

- Administer prescribed medications, treatments, and procedures, including IV medications, pain management, and sedation reversal as appropriate.
- Provide wound care and ensure all surgical sites are properly monitored for signs of infection or complications.
- Educate patients and families on post-procedural care, medications, activity restrictions, and follow-up appointments.
- Provide compassionate support and clear instructions to ease patient and family anxiety, promoting a smooth recovery process.
- Offer resources and guidance for managing health and recovery post-discharge.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care, manage treatment plans, and participate in interdisciplinary team meetings.
- Maintain accurate documentation of patient assessments and interventions, ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and adhere to safety protocols to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Respond quickly and effectively to medical emergencies, performing life-saving procedures and stabilizing patients as required.
- Follow infection control protocols to maintain a safe environment for patients and staff.
- Assist with procedural setup and maintenance of a sterile environment.
- Engage in ongoing training to stay current with best practices and evidence-based care.
Preferred Experience
- Previous experience on surgical unit and telemetry experience desirable
- Membership in ILSPAN, ASPAN, and AORN professional organizations encouraged
- Graduate of an approved school of nursing
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Illinois.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification and PALS certification within 6 months of hire
- * New Graduate RNs starting on or after 1/1/25 must earn Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) within 3 years of start date.
- Bachelors degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Sensory Requirements (speech, Vision, Smell, Hearing, Touch)

Required to read monitors, medication labels, doctor order sheets. - Smell:
Helpful for electrical/fire safety. - Hearing:
Necessary for phone/intercom/doorbell, alarms, fire alarms. - Touch:
Necessary for writing, patient care.
