Position: TEAM LEADER- RMC 3RD IMCU (FT Days)

Overview

Riverside Healthcare is seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse Team Leader to join our dynamic Medical Surgical team in Kankakee, Illinois. This role is integral in supervising and coordinating patient care. The ideal candidate will be an experienced nurse with a proven track record in leadership and clinical excellence. In this role, you will provide high‑quality, compassionate care to patients while leading a team of skilled nurses in a fast‑paced environment.

You will collaborate with the Nurse Manager to supervise daily operations, promote that clinical practices meet the highest standards, foster a collaborative work environment, and contribute to the overall safety, well‑being, and recovery of our patients. Additionally, this position requires flexibility with assignments within professional scope/duties/licensure.

Scheduling Requirements

8 am – 8 pm (shift hours may vary as needed).

Essential Duties
  • Clinical Leadership:
    Oversee and guide the daily activities of the unit, ensuring all clinical practices and patient care protocols are adhered to with professionalism and accuracy. Coordinate care, admission and discharge planning, make assignments, and supervise unit staff while on shift.
  • Patient Care:
    Assume a patient assignment as needed to provide direct patient care, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care plans. Manage complex cases and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to deliver comprehensive care.
  • Treatment Administration:
    Administer medications, treatments, and procedures as ordered by a provider. Monitor patient responses to treatments and update care plans as necessary to ensure optimal outcomes.
  • Patient and Family

    Education:

    Provide comprehensive, culturally and age‑appropriate education to patients and their families regarding medical conditions, treatment plans, and care procedures. Ensure patients and families are well‑informed about managing their health and any required follow‑up care.
  • Infection Control:
    Adhere to infection control protocols and maintain a clean and safe environment for patients and staff. Implement standard precautions and safety measures to prevent the spread of infections.
  • Team Coordination:
    Facilitate effective communication among nursing staff, physicians, and other healthcare professionals. Promote teamwork and provide support and guidance to nursing staff to ensure cohesive patient care.
  • Staff Training and Development:
    Mentor and train new and existing staff members. Provide ongoing performance coaching and constructive feedback to enhance team skills and professional growth.
  • Quality Improvement:
    Partner with the Nurse Manager to monitor and ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, standards, and best practices. Engage in quality improvement initiatives, evidence‑based practice, and research when applicable, along with clinical audits to enhance patient care outcomes.
  • Emergency Response:
    Lead the clinical response during emergencies, ensuring patient and staff safety and coordinating with other healthcare providers.
  • Administrative Duties:
    Assist the Nurse Manager with staffing, scheduling, timekeeping, interviews, managing expenses, and other administrative tasks as needed.
  • Patient

    Experience:

    Conduct patient rounds, engage with patients and their families in a manner that promotes comfort, trust, and understanding, and address patient concerns with empathy and professionalism.
  • Employee

    Experience:

    Contribute to a positive and collaborative work environment. Offer constructive feedback and assistance to peers, and engage in open communication to promote a culture of mutual respect and teamwork.
  • Maintain annual education requirements for hospital‑based certifications (e.g., DNV‑CARF and others).
Non‑Essential Duties
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and training to stay current with best practices.
  • Participate in hospital committees and task forces as needed to support organizational goals and improvements.
