Job SummaryAn experienced technician who performs Quality Audits on completed Locating Tickets and is responsible for a variety of tasks related to utility protection for a variety of utility clients. The Watch and Protect technician will oversee contractors digging on and around utility facilities, monitor excavation to help prevent damage to critical facilities.
Responsibilities- Perform quality audits on completed work, including inspection of locate marks and marking standards, E‑Sketch documentation, billing and status codes, capture and photo documentation review, and scope of ticket work area; focus on accuracy and mapping standards.
- Communicate any serious concerns found during audits to supervisor immediately and ensure they are addressed onsite.
- Watch & Protect: compare real‑world conditions to record documentation to identify errors and omissions; verify location of all client facilities within specified dig extents; protect client facilities within given areas; understand contractor's methods, monitor and provide surveillance of critical infrastructure where excavations are known or expected.
- Locate and mark underground facilities using industry devices, standards and methods, including various locating devices and utility maps; ensure locators follow proper marking procedures.
- Contact excavators and schedule monitoring visits.
- High school diploma or GED certificate.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in the locating industry.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to read and interpret prints at a high level.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with citizens, contractors and customers.
- Good organizational skills to handle many varied tasks.
- Knowledge of safe worksite practices.
- Experience with construction and installation of below‑grade infrastructure and maintenance of locating equipment.
- Experience with existing utility standard designs and complex urban infrastructure as client liaison.
- Must complete a background check (no violations in last 5 years) and pass a DOT drug test.
- Capable of moving around construction work sites, public streets, and parkways.
- Capable of lifting up to 50/75 lbs.
- Can stand, walk, kneel or sit for extended periods.
- Good hand‑eye coordination to operate computers and locating instruments.
- Reasonable accommodations for disabilities.
- Work safely outdoors in all weather year‑round.
- Occasional work in excavations, roadways, and wet/humid conditions; exposure to fumes, airborne particles, vibration.
- Noise level occasionally moderate to loud.
Full‑time, hourly. Pay varies based on experience.
