Overview
Instrumentation & Controls Drafter - Data Center. Olsson is seeking an I&C Drafter to support the development of high-quality engineering solutions for data center projects. You’ll assist in preparing instrumentation and controls design documents, collaborate with engineers and other disciplines, and help ensure designs meet project requirements and safety standards. This is an excellent opportunity for early-career professionals to grow in a collaborative and technically driven environment.
PrimaryResponsibilities
- Assist in preparing instrumentation engineering/design deliverables including:
- Instrument Index
- Instrument Data Sheets
- Installation Details
- Instrument Location Plans
- Wiring Diagrams and Loop Diagrams
- Support the development of control systems (DCS/PLC) documentation:
- I/O Lists
- Process Control Narratives
- Graphic Sketches
- Cause & Effect Diagrams
- Alarm Rationalization
- Collaborate with third-party control system vendors and participate in Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT).
- Help develop and review P&IDs for various projects.
- Assist in selecting and sizing I&C components such as valves, thermowells, orifice plates, and relief valves.
- Work across disciplines to develop level sketches and ensure design integration.
- Review vendor documentation and contribute technical input.
- Ensure compliance with company and project site safety policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Learning and applying innovative control system design practices.
- Collaborating with engineers and designers to create integrated solutions.
- Exploring new instrumentation technologies and industry standards.
- Growing professionally in a supportive and mentorship-driven environment.
- Contributing to safe and efficient engineering outcomes.
- Experience in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Associate s degree preferred.
- 0–4 years of experience in instrumentation and controls drafting or design.
- Familiarity with engineering design software and tools (REVIT experience is a plus).
- Basic understanding of control systems (DCS/PLC) and instrumentation technologies.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- A willingness to learn, take initiative, and contribute to project success.
