Electrical Engineering, Operations Management
Type: Full-time, direct hire
About the RoleOur client is an established energy infrastructure company that delivers power generation facilities for utility and industrial customers. They are adding senior engineers in both mechanical and electrical disciplines to take on Project Engineering Manager (PEM) responsibilities.
This is a step up for an experienced discipline engineer who wants to lead projects without leaving the technical work behind. You will own engineering delivery for your discipline from kickoff through commissioning, direct the engineers and designers on your projects, and act as Engineer of Record. Day to day, you will work with procurement, construction, project controls, vendors, and customer representatives to keep projects on track for quality, cost, and schedule.
What You Will Do- Own engineering delivery for power generation projects in your discipline, from early design through startup.
- Act as Engineer of Record, reviewing, approving, and sealing engineering work.
- Align the work of civil, structural, controls, piping, mechanical, and electrical teams so deliverables fit together cleanly.
- Set and track engineering budgets, schedules, and work plans, and report progress to leadership and customers.
- Verify that designs meet governing codes, customer specifications, and internal quality requirements.
- Review calculations, drawings, specifications, and vendor submittals, and resolve open technical issues.
- Evaluate vendor proposals and manage supplier documentation and equipment data.
- Assess the cost and schedule impact of scope changes and manage them through approval.
- Identify technical and execution risks early and drive mitigation.
- Support procurement, field construction, commissioning, and project closeout.
- Lead design reviews and coach junior engineers and designers.
- Help improve the company's engineering standards, templates, and project execution methods.
Mechanical focus: Rotating machinery, turbines, pumps and compressors, process and utility piping, thermal and heat-recovery systems, packaged equipment, and plant support systems.
Electrical focus: Generators, medium- and low-voltage distribution, switch gear, protection and control, one-line diagrams, grounding, cable and raceway design, power system studies (short circuit, load flow, arc flash), and grid interconnection.
What You Bring Required- Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering (or a closely related field).
- Active PE license, or the eligibility and commitment to be licensed within 12 months of hire. You must be able to serve as Engineer of Record.
- Five or more years of engineering experience in power generation, utilities, or energy, with time spent in an EPC setting.
- Experience as a lead engineer, project engineer, or engineering project manager.
- Working knowledge of gas-fired or comparable power plants and how their systems fit together.
- Hands‑on engineering experience in the technical areas listed above for your discipline.
- Proven ability to manage scope, schedule, budget, and change on engineering work.
- Comfort coordinating across disciplines and reviewing technical documents from multiple teams.
- Familiarity with how procurement, vendor management, construction, and commissioning work.
- Ability to read project schedules and cost-control reports.
- Clear communication and the confidence to lead, influence, and work with customers.
- Ability to juggle several priorities on tight timelines.
- Authorization to work in the U.S. without current or future sponsorship.
- Two or more years leading an engineering team or workstream.
- Experience with document control, scheduling, or project collaboration tools.
- PMP or a similar project management credential.
