Post Doctoral Fellow - Pathology

Department: SOM KC Pathology and Lab Medicine

The Postdoctoral Fellow will work under the supervision of Dr. Liang Zheng in the KUMC Pathology Department, engaging in cutting‑edge research on the molecular mechanisms underlying thrombosis and hemostasis. The goal is to understand how dysregulation in these processes contributes to complex cardiovascular and hematologic diseases. The fellow will have opportunities for collaboration with clinicians, faculty, and research staff across the institution.

Postdoctoral scholars at KUMC are individuals who have received a terminal degree and who pursue further training in a time‑limited appointment. A scholar is expected to participate in a full‑time regime of advanced training and research, train under a faculty mentor, promote publication of findings, prepare research grants, participate in academic activities, follow the university’s Individual Development Plan policy, and demonstrate strong English communication skills.

The fellow must independently plan, multi‑task, and complete projects, design and execute experiments, analyze data, write manuscripts and grant applications, and supervise graduate students.

• Conduct research related to thrombosis and hemostasis, analyze data, and interpret experimental results.
• Prepare manuscripts for peer‑reviewed journals and present findings at conferences and scientific meetings.
• Collaborate with lab members (graduate students and technicians) to achieve research objectives and contribute to a collaborative environment.
• Comply with all university and department orientation and training requirements, maintain a laboratory notebook, and attend research team meetings.
• Read literature, develop ideas, integrate information into project design, and disseminate studies through regular communication with the mentor and lab members.
• Present research aims and findings at department seminars and scientific meetings, and publish first‑author abstracts, manuscripts, and posters.
• Submit fellowship applications as eligible to secure research funding and build CVs.

• PhD or equivalent terminal degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, or a related field.

• Demonstrated experience with molecular biology techniques.

• Proficiency in working with rodent or zebrafish models.

• Proactive and self‑motivated approach to research.
