NETWORK & SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Under general supervision, the Network and Systems Administrator maintains both the internal and external-facing IT infrastructure, including servers, switches, routers, and end-user hardware. This position also provides tier I helpdesk support to the organization.

POSITION DUTIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • 40% Oversees various network administrative functions of the Zoo’s IT department, including:
    • Managing the Zoo’s wired and wireless networks.
    • Providing SAN & NAS support.
    • Managing the Active Directory & Group Policy.
    • Managing and configuring Fortinet firewalls.
    • Configuring, deploying, and managing Ruckus network switches.
    • Supporting point‑to‑point network connectivity for locations with no physical data lines available.
  • 40% Oversees various IT systems administrative functions, including:
    • Maintaining and supporting Hyper‑V virtual server cluster.
    • Managing Enterprise backups and restores, utilizing Veeam backups.
    • Managing Office 365 environment, specifically email.
    • Installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and updating all hardware and software, including servers, network equipment, telecom, printers, and AV, as well as third‑party software. Third‑party software may include time tracking, ticketing, credit card processing and POS systems.
    • Performing and/or supervising installation of various systems, including security cameras, digital locks, etc.
    • Maintaining and overseeing the Zoo’s phone and telecom systems.
  • 40% Performs other general IT related duties, including:
    • Providing tier I helpdesk support to Zoo employees.
    • Pricing, evaluating, and testing upcoming changes to software and hardware.
    • Meeting with contractors and vendors to coordinate issue resolution and expansion projects.
    • Determining IT service requirements by analyzing needs of users/departments, as well as prioritizing modifications to core systems applications.
    • Assisting with the development and implementation documentation requirements for problem resolution.
  • 20% This position may at times be requested to perform other duties or special projects as assigned, which are in the best interest of the Kansas City Zoo & Aquarium.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Education & Formal Training
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or IT related field or equivalent work experience required.
  • Experience
    • At least 3 years’ experience in computer/technology industry required.
    • Proficiency with networking concepts and technologies, including routing, switching, VOIP, DNS, TCP/IP, etc.
    • Experience with network/systems administration and knowledge of Active Directory, Exchange, Print Servers, etc.
    • Knowledge of desktop, notebook and server hardware.
    • Experience with third‑party software, including time tracking, ticketing, credit card processing, and POS systems preferred.
    • Experience with VoIP technology and a general understanding of telecom principles preferred.
    • Great attention to detail, flexibility and time‑management skills.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Other Minimum Requirements
    • Must have valid driver’s license.
    • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
    • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time and may occasionally be required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
    • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, evening hours, and holidays, in all weather extremes.
    • Must have the ability to be on‑call during all hours and respond to emergency requests quickly and efficiently, as needed.
    • Must pass a background and drug screening.
