Job Description & How to Apply Below

Are you experienced in CNC machining and programming and enjoy finding ways to make manufacturing processes more efficient? A&K Railroad Materials Inc. is looking for a hands-on Manufacturing Engineering Technician – CAD/CAM to support CNC programming, machining process development, and CAMWorks implementation at our Kansas City, KS facility.

In this role, you’ll work closely with Engineering, CNC programmers, machinists, and Production to turn Solid Works models and engineering drawings into efficient, repeatable manufacturing processes. This is an opportunity to apply your technical knowledge, troubleshoot challenges on the shop floor, and help improve machining performance, quality, and productivity.

Responsibilities
  • CNC programming and CAM development:
Develop and maintain CNC programs using CAMWorks and Solid Works. Build and maintain tooling libraries, machining strategies, feeds, speeds, and programming standards.
  • Program testing and troubleshooting:
Work with CNC programmers and machinists to prove out, test, and optimize CNC programs. Troubleshoot machining, tooling, setup, and programming issues to help ensure reliable production.
  • Manufacturing documentation and process planning:
Create setup sheets, tooling lists, and manufacturing instructions. Maintain CNC program and documentation revision control to support consistency and accuracy.
  • Engineering and continuous improvement:
Review designs for manufacturability and assist with fixtures, work holding, routings, and manufacturing process improvements. Support efforts to reduce setup time, cycle time, scrap, and rework while improving overall manufacturing efficiency.
What We’re Looking For
  • Experience in CNC machining, CNC programming, manufacturing engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience using CAM software in a manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of CNC machining processes, tooling, feeds and speeds, and work holding.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, including tolerances and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting ability, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with Engineering, CNC programmers, machinists, and Production.
Preferred qualifications

CAMWorks experience is strongly preferred, and Solid Works experience is preferred. An associate degree or technical certification is also preferred; relevant hands‑on experience may be considered in place of formal education.

Why Join A&K Railroad Materials?

At A&K Railroad Materials Inc., you’ll join a team-centered manufacturing environment where collaboration and continuous improvement matter. Your work will help develop dependable, repeatable machining processes that support production and product quality.

Our benefits include multiple health and dental plan options, a 401(k) with company match, and paid time off.
