Job Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Emergency Room Psych RN for night shifts, requiring both ER and psychiatric nursing background with strong assessment skills.

• Position located in the Emergency Department with a psychiatric focus
• Care for high-risk psychiatric patients in the ED
• Work 12-hour night shifts from 1900 to 0700, three times per week
• No floating or on-call requirements
• May occasionally be asked to work 1-2 weekends per month
• Holiday coverage required based on unit needs
• Provide direct care to two high-risk psychiatric patients at a time, including medication administration, restraint use, de-escalation, and coordinating placement
• Perform psychiatric evaluations for all psych patients entering the ED and coordinate necessary placement or interventions
• Respond to Behavioral Response Team calls across the hospital, supporting bedside staff alongside police and nurse managers
• Position is highly independent and requires strong psychiatric nursing skills for assessment and disposition planning
• Facility is nicotine free
• New graduates are not eligible for this position

• Active KS or Compact RN license required
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Minimum 1 year of ER experience and 1 year of psychiatric nursing experience in a hospital setting preferred
• Experience with psychiatric patient assessments and determining appropriate dispositions is required
• Proven ability to manage violent or escalated psychiatric patients
