Job Description SummaryThe Bose lab seeks a Research Assistant to study human bacterial pathogens.
KeyRoles and Responsibilities
- Perform research with live mouse models, bacterial proteins, and live bacteria in vitro.
- Manage lab inventory including ordering and restocking of supplies as well as other laboratory records.
- Maintain a current Laboratory Notebook, documenting all calculations, work, experiments, and other pertinent research information.
- Perform collaborative studies with other research laboratories at KUMC.
- Generate data and document research performed for the preparation of published papers, as well as assist on grant submissions and other documentation necessary for laboratory compliance.
- Participate in regular communication with the PI and lab members via lab meetings to discuss experimental design and interpretation of results.
Attend and maintain compliance on all orientation and training sessions designated by the University and the Department, understand and follow IACUC and biosafety protocols, and attend departmental seminars and regular lab meetings.
Required Qualifications- Education:
Bachelor degree in biological sciences. Education may be substituted for experience on a year‑for‑year basis. Experience used to substitute education is in addition to any required work experience.
- Education:
BS in Microbiology or related field. Education may be substituted for experience on a year‑for‑year basis.
- Research experience with bacteria.
- Prior experience with PCR, Western blot, aseptic technique, dilution plating, and other microbiological methods.
- Strong analytical skills and exceptional interpersonal skills.

Compensation StatementThe pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
