Payroll Compliance Specialist

Kansas City, MO | Long-Term Contract | Hybrid

Morgan Hunter is partnering with a large Kansas City organization to hire a Payroll Compliance Specialist for a long-term contract opportunity.

This role will focus on payroll accuracy, compliance, and quality control while supporting a busy payroll team through an upcoming system transition.

• Review multi-state payroll processes to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance
• Audit payroll calculations, deductions, benefits, taxes, and other payments
• Oversee compliance related to union agreements, prevailing wages, and garnishments
• Identify discrepancies and resolve payroll issues through research and reconciliation
• Maintain payroll controls, codes, and procedures to support accurate processing
• Partner with internal teams on payroll, accounting, and compliance matters
• Use Excel to analyze payroll data, identify errors, and improve reporting
• Recommend process improvements and support payroll documentation and training

• 3+ years of payroll experience with a strong focus on compliance and quality control
• Experience with multi-state payroll, union administration, and prevailing wage requirements preferred but not required
• Advanced Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs, and formulas
• Strong knowledge of payroll regulations, taxes, deductions, and reconciliations
• Experience reviewing payroll processes and identifying errors in complex data
• Detail-oriented, professional, and able to learn new systems quickly
