Payroll Specialist

Kansas City, MO | Long-Term Contract | Hybrid Morgan Hunter is partnering with a large Kansas City organization to hire a Payroll Specialist for a long-term contract opportunity. This hands‑on role will support day‑to‑day payroll operations during an upcoming system transition, with a strong focus on accuracy, problem-solving, and timely processing.

• Process payroll, review pay registers, and ensure accurate and timely payments
• Identify timesheet discrepancies and make necessary corrections
• Process manual checks, supplemental payments, and payroll adjustments
• Maintain employee payroll records, including direct deposits, benefits, and deductions
• Review new hire information and update employee profiles in payroll systems
• Balance direct deposit payroll and assist with payroll reconciliations
• Review wage rates and support prevailing wage and certified payroll requirements
• Respond to employee payroll questions and maintain accurate payroll documentation

• 2+ years of payroll processing experience preferred
• Strong Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs, and formulas
• Experience working with payroll systems and processing complex payroll transactions
• Excellent attention to detail with the ability to identify and correct errors
• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem‑solving skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet payroll deadlines
• Professional communication skills and a collaborative, service-oriented approach
