Position Summary
Cardiac intensivist – full‑time position within the Division of Critical Care at Children’s Mercy Kansas City. The Division houses a 24‑bed dedicated cardiac intensive care unit and consists of a team of 10 cardiac intensivists.
Responsibilities- Provide comprehensive care for infants and children with congenital and acquired heart disease in a multidisciplinary CICU environment.
- Perform and assist in approximately 400 cardiopulmonary bypass cases annually, and support the cardiomyopathy/cardiac transplantation program, including a Ventricular Assist Device program.
- Lead or assist in an active ECMO program that conducts up to 50 cases per year and provides mobile ECMO capabilities.
- Collaborate with peers in heart failure, interventional cardiology, imaging, electrophysiology, and cardiovascular surgery.
- Engage in multi‑center collaborative initiatives and clinical research; candidates with significant quality‑improvement or research experience receive special consideration.

- Dual board certification in critical care and cardiology, or focused cardiac ICU training in addition to critical care training.
- Experience in pediatric cardiac critical care, including cardiopulmonary bypass, ECMO, and transplant/assist device care.

- Ability to pursue faculty appointments through affiliation with the University of Missouri‑Kansas City, commensurate with experience.
Faculty appointments are available and commensurate with experience, providing opportunities for participation in multi‑center collaborative initiatives, clinical research, quality‑improvement projects, and clinical education. The Division supports a team‑based model with 24/7 coverage by APRNs and a robust interprofessional staff, including pharmacists, respiratory therapists, nutritionists, social workers, and chaplains.
