TJIDS Earns Platinum Distinction on College Board’s Advanced Placement Honor Roll

December 13, 2024

College Board announced that Thomas Jefferson Independent Day School (TJIDS) has been named to the 2024 Advanced Placement Program (AP) School Honor Roll, earning PLATINUM distinction, College Board’s highest honor. TJ is one of only 10 high schools in Missouri to earn College Board’s highest level of distinction. Factors considered when evaluating school programs include number of AP courses offered, student performance/pass rate on AP exams, number of students earning AP Scholar distinction, and faculty credentials and overall expertise in their discipline.

TJIDS offers 20 AP courses which are taken primarily during the junior and senior years; five courses are specifically required of all students. Most graduates take at least seven AP courses during their studies. All students enrolled in an AP course, regardless of their course grade, sit for the AP exam.

May 2024 Testing Period:

  • 63 of 63 eligible TJIDS students took 192 AP exams in 20 subjects.
  • 100% of students in grades 10-12 took at least one AP course.
  • TJIDS students recorded an 86 percent overall pass rate (national average: 60%).
  • 33 of the 47 eligible students earned designation as AP Scholars.

“We are honored to receive the Platinum distinction from College Board for the second year in a row. This honor is a testament to the strong work ethic of our students and teachers, their commitment to excellence, and the strength of our entire Pre-K-12 academic program,” said Laura McDonald, Head of School.

College Board’s Advanced Placement Program (AP) enables students to pursue college-level studies—with the opportunity to earn college credit, advanced placement, or both—while still in high school. Through AP courses in 38 subjects, each culminating in a challenging exam, students learn to think critically, construct solid arguments, and see many sides of an issue—skills that prepare them for college and beyond.
