PURPOSE OF JOB: Teach content subjects aligned to state and national standards outlined by KCPS’ guaranteed and viable curriculum. Proactively seeks to identify, screen possible English Learners, assess, and collaborate with all staff members to ensure English Language Development instruction, monitoring, and support is provided within all subject areas.

What You'll Be Doing: (Responsibilities)

• Facilitates learning and instruction by using multiple presentation methods: demonstrating,
• Modeling, visual representations, and strategies that aid in supplementing and engaging students in the content.
• Prepares course objectives and outline for course of study following curriculum guidelines and requirements of state and school.
• Adapts/Scaffolds/Differentiates materials, assignments, and assessments to meet the needs of English language learners.
• Collaborates with all staff members to link ESL and content instruction and student needs to provide support for English language learners.
• Administers assessments to evaluate the progress and results and issues reports to inform all stakeholders of student progress.
• Keeps and maintains grades, attendance, lesson plans, student records, discipline information
• Maintains a positive classroom environment conducive to learning.
• Ensures communication and translation/interpretation for stakeholders (parents/guardians) in their native language when possible
• Participates in multiple meeting types: department, building, faculty, and professional meetings educational conferences, professional development, and workshops.
• Other duties as assigned.

To Be Successful at This Job, You'll Need To: (Qualifications)

• Bachelor's degree in Education from a four-year college or university
• Valid Missouri State Certification in grade level or content area assigned
• Valid Missouri State Certification in ESL (K-12) or willing to obtain ESL Endorsement

• Demonstrated experience and/or training in current techniques and skills in teaching
• English language learners.
• Teaching experience in urban schools.
• Kansas City Public Schools

Length of work year: 10-month school-year calendar; 8hrs/day, five days/week
