42411 – Sediment Remediation Specialist (Engineer, Scientist or Geologist) in CDM Smith's Environmental Services Group.
Location:
United States – Nationwide. The role requires experience modeling contaminant transport through sediment caps and/or working knowledge of CAD in remediation projects, combined with basic geotechnical engineering experience, on remediation projects across the United States. Candidates should be able to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team on remediation projects for diverse clients, including Federal and Public sector clients.
More experienced candidates may be considered for a higher grade level.
- Understand the scientific and engineering principles of modeling contaminant fate and transport through sediment caps in subaqueous systems. Experience with Cap Sim is preferred.
- Use CAD to develop drawings for contaminated sediment dredging and/or soil excavation projects, including following direction from a senior engineer with minimal continual oversight.
- Perform slope stability modeling.
- Develop field sampling programs and analyze data to support conceptual site models, mass balances, and data-based understanding of fate and transport processes; interpret results from sediment cores, bathymetric surveys, etc.
- Develop, calibrate, and apply numerical and/or desktop models.
- Evaluate the feasibility of sediment remediation technologies and assist in developing sediment remediation designs for large contaminated sediment sites involving multiple stakeholders.
- Serve as CDM Smith’s primary interface with clients on complicated sediment tasks; assess problems and communicate technical strategy to the client.

Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree. 5 years of related experience. Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on duties and project demands. Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Bachelor’s degree in Science or Civil, Environmental or Chemical Engineering or related discipline.
- Certification as an Engineer in Training (EIT) or passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam in states where an EIT is not obtainable (within 18 months of hire or promotion or transfer).
