What You Will DoThe role follows a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance at one of the following office locations:
Kansas City, MO;
Wichita, KS;
Omaha, NE;
Denver, CO;
St. Louis, MO;
Tulsa, OK; or Oklahoma City, OK. You will engage in transformative projects that enhance transportation infrastructure and improve community connectivity, working on highways, bridges, and traffic engineering solutions.
- Prepare and direct traffic analysis and studies, including safety studies. Also complete design and plan preparation of traffic signal and interchange drawings.
- Plan and develop engineering projects concerning unique or controversial problems, exploring subject areas, defining scope, and selecting problems for investigation.
- Work independently, as a team member or lead, to execute specific phases or aspects of projects such as technical studies, project design, preparation of specifications and technical plans.
- Review project design for general compliance with engineering principles, company standards, and client contract requirements.
- Coordinate activities concerning technical developments, scheduling, and manpower; resolve engineering design problems.
- Evaluate and approve design changes, specifications, and drawing releases.
- Show understanding of team management, develop project scope of work, estimate manpower needs, prepare CPM schedules, and track project progress.
- Assure that the project is completed within the allocated period of time and budget.
- Advocate for and mentor entry‑level engineers.
- Maintain liaison with individuals and units within or outside the organization on technical matters.
- Plan and execute project meetings.
- Assure the project meets quality control and quality assurance guidelines.
- Interpret changes in the contract and advise management on needed changes.
- Maintain professional and technical skills by attending educational workshops, reviewing publications, and participating in professional societies.
- Assist and participate in preparation of business proposals.
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an ABET‑accredited university.
- Minimum of 10 years of professional experience within Traffic and/or Highway engineering.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Kansas or Missouri with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. Other state licensing may be accepted with new state licensure.
- Experience working with KDOT, MoDOT, and other local transportation agencies.
- Experience with traffic and safety analysis; knowledge of the MUTCD and Highway Capacity Manual.
- Experience with traffic simulation software (Synchro, HCS, Sidra, or VISSIM).
- Experience with design of traffic control elements such as plans, specifications, and estimates for traffic signals, roadway signing, pavement markings, and work‑zone maintenance of traffic plans.
- Proficient in Micro Station CAD and MS Excel and Word (required), Open Roads Designer (preferred).
- Strong communication skills—respond to inquiries from customers, regulatory agencies, or community members and present information to management and public groups.
- Mathematical competence—probability, statistics, geometry, trigonometry, and applying fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions in practice.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions from technical instructions.
- Experience in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Office, and various engineering software systems.
- Adept at collaborative problem solving and encouraging reciprocal learning among team members.

- Certified Public Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE).
The salary range is $125,000 – $165,000, depending on experience and geographic location.
