Job Description & How to Apply Below
Beacon Mental Health, a respected community-based behavioral health organization serving the Kansas City region, is seeking its next Chief Financial Officer (CFO). The search aims to identify a collaborative, mission‑aligned financial leader who can partner closely with the CEO and a dedicated board to strengthen financial operations and support continued community service.
As a certified community behavioral health clinic serving Clay, Platte, and Ray counties, Beacon operates in a complex public funding environment and focuses on modernizing financial systems, improving automation, and increasing transparency and consistency across financial operations.
About Beacon Mental Health
Beacon Mental Health, a roughly $40 million not‑for‑profit established in 1990 as Tri‑County Mental Health Services, has evolved into a leading behavioral health provider in the Kansas City metropolitan area. The mission is to provide prevention and recovery‑oriented mental health and substance‑use services that are person‑centered, quality‑assured, and accessible to all.
About the Role
As CFO of Beacon Mental Health, you will step into a critical leadership role at a respected community mental health organization. You will bring clarity, consistency, and discipline to its financial and operational infrastructure while honoring its mission, culture, and community relationships.
Responsibilities
• Modernize and integrate financial workflows, improve automation across accounts payable and billing, strengthen revenue‑cycle management and accounts receivable, and ensure accurate, timely, and transparent financial reporting.
• Assess current systems and practices, communicate findings, and lead measured, well‑communicated improvements that reduce risk, improve efficiency, and support long‑term sustainability.
• Serve as a trusted strategic partner to the CEO and executive leadership team, collaborating with department leaders to improve budgeting, staffing, and financial accountability.
• Support the Board of Directors by providing clear, accurate, and actionable financial information that enables informed governance and decision‑making.
• Oversee financial technology and related infrastructure, evaluating system integrations, cloud readiness, and IT limitations that impact efficiency and data access.
• Demonstrate adaptability, patience, and change‑management skills, balancing improvement with stability, staff capacity, and continuity of care.
Qualifications
Not explicitly listed in the posting, but the role requires an experienced CFO with a strong background in nonprofit finance, strategic planning, and technology implementation. Likely expectations include a minimum of 10‑15 years of progressive financial leadership, experience in behavioral health or a related nonprofit setting, and strong communication and leadership skills.
