Location:

Independence, Missouri. Office hours:
Mon-Fri, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM (Full time).

Be the welcoming face of the Health Department! As a Public Health Office Assistant, you’ll help keep our services running smoothly by assisting patients, managing registration, supporting clerical operations, and maintaining accurate records. You’ll play a vital role in connecting the community to essential health services and ensuring a positive experience for all.

What You’ll Do
  • Greet and assist patients in person and by phone
  • Register patients, schedule visits, and verify insurance
  • Enter and maintain data in state health systems (e.g., MOHSIS, CASA)
  • Collect and reconcile payments and maintain accurate records
  • Support vaccine inventory and monitor storage temperatures
  • Help with reports, mail, supplies, and general office duties
  • Provide clerical support at outreach sites and special clinics
  • Assist with birth/death certificate processing and voter registration
  • Promote a friendly, organized, and professional front office environment
Minimum Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least 2 years of clerical, receptionist, or data entry experience (preferably in healthcare or customer service)
  • Typing speed of at least 30 wpm and basic Microsoft Office skills
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to multitask effectively
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Medicaid billing or vendor communication
  • Familiarity with basic billing processes
