Overview

Children’s Mercy Kansas City has an opening for a pediatric psychologist specializing in working with patients and their families who are treated by hematology, oncology, and blood and marrow transplant teams to join an additional psychologist on the team. Our division of Hematology, Oncology, and Blood and Marrow Transplant is large and very clinically active, with over 50 physicians and Advanced practice providers, with a focus on team-based and family centered care.

The Hematology, Oncology, and Blood and Marrow Transplant Division is also committed to cutting edge treatments as a participant in national research collaboratives such as the Children’s Oncology Group, being a federally-designated Hemophilia Treatment Center, and in partnership with the University of Kansas Cancer Center, has a National Cancer Institute-designated pediatric cancer center. The psychologist would be a member of the Division of Developmental and Behavioral Health and the Division of Hematology, Oncology, and Blood and Marrow Transplant.

We are recruiting a psychologist who has training and/or experience with youth with leukemia, lymphomas, brain tumors, bone marrow transplants, sickle cell disease and other types of cancer and hematologic conditions. This position would be a blend of inpatient and outpatient treatment. Experience conducting targeted outpatient therapy, evidence-based interventions, pre-surgical evaluations (e.g., pre-BMT, Gene Therapy), inpatient consultation, multidisciplinary care conferences, and psychological testing is desired.

This position will include teaching in the hospital’s pediatric medical and psychology training programs. It will also include protected academic time for service, research, and other scholarly activities. Faculty mentoring is provided for all new faculty members, with additional supports available for those interested in clinical scholarship (e.g., program evaluation, quality improvement initiatives). This position carries an academic appointment at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine, with rank commensurate to qualifications and experience.

Applicants must have:

  • A PhD or PsyD in clinical psychology, pediatric psychology, clinical child psychology, or related field
  • Completion of an APA-accredited internship and/or post-doctoral fellowship with clinical child and adolescent psychology as a major area of study
  • Eligibility for clinical psychology licensure in Missouri and Kansas
