Position Summary

The District Manager In Training (DMIT) position provides comprehensive training to prepare candidates for a District Manager role. District Managers guide Store Managers, ensuring exceptional guest experience, operational excellence, and a workplace that promotes engagement and living the Company values.

Training

Phase I:
Complete foundational training including New Hire Orientation and MIT Training program. Manage one location for 2‑3 months (internal promotions from SM/RGM level are not required to complete Phase I).

Phase II:
Spend 6‑8 weeks with a designated DM Trainer to observe and perform day‑to‑day duties, learning District Manager responsibilities. Upon completion, candidates become District Managers In Waiting and assume leadership at their home store.

Responsibilities
  • Build a strategic plan for the area, including staffing levels and performance management.
  • Oversee team engagement and productivity across a wide network of locations, supporting retention and growth.
  • Demonstrate leadership by building trust, setting clear goals, holding accountability, and communicating effectively.
  • Hire or promote store management candidates, ensuring they receive training, coaching, and feedback.
  • Analyze financial reports (P&L, gap analysis, sales, expenses, labor costs, inventory control) and coach Store Managers to improve profitability.
  • Conduct weekly store visits to ensure compliance with regional and company standards.
  • Maintain guest satisfaction, product quality, safety, and security across the territory.
  • Emphasize food service, increasing sales and maintaining safety standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Region Manager.

Working Relationships

Store team members, Region Manager, VP of Retail Operations, Human Resources Business Partner, Centers of Excellence, Facilities Maintenance, Marketing, Risk Management, Environmental and Legal departments, vendors.

Requirements
  • Minimum Education: High School or GED
  • Preferred Education: College degree in business or related field (may substitute for part of required experience)
  • Minimum Experience: 10 years retail experience, restaurant general management, successful completion of the DMIT program
  • Preferred Experience: 1‑3 years multi‑unit experience in c‑store or restaurant environment
  • Soft Skills:
    • Excellent team‑building and leadership practices
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
    • Organizational skills and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and ability to learn additional programs
    • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and constructively handle various issues
    • Strong analytical skills

Travel

95% traveling from location to location.

Hours & Conditions

Typically Monday–Friday for a 48‑hour work week (mirroring SM work week). Occasional weekend work may be required.

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift up to 10 pounds regularly, up to 25 pounds frequently, and occasionally up to 40 pounds. Stand/walk 8 hours a day, reach overhead, bend, squat, twist, reach, grasp and grip.
