SummaryThe Materials Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of material flow within the production facility, ensuring timely and accurate movement of materials to support production operations. This includes managing receiving, warehouse inventory, and picking operations to ensure efficiency, accuracy, and alignment with production schedules. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of supply chain principles, and a hands‑on approach to problem‑solving in a fast‑paced production environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Oversee and manage all inbound material receiving processes, ensuring accuracy and timely transactions into inventory systems.
- Ensure material flow from receiving through storage, kitting/picking, and delivery to the production floor is efficient and aligns with production needs.
- Lead the warehouse and material handling teams to meet daily operational goals, ensuring safety, quality, and productivity targets are achieved.
- Develop and enforce picking strategies to ensure accurate and timely order fulfillment for production requirements.
- Collaborate with Production Planning, Purchasing, and Quality to support production schedules and prevent material shortages or overstock conditions.
- Monitor and coordinate Lean Kit card updates and card flow to ensure material movement and production tasks remain aligned and visible.
- Oversee all Crane ship‑outs, ensuring components are properly staged, documented, and verified for accuracy prior to shipment.
- Optimize inventory accuracy through cycle counts, root cause analysis of discrepancies, and continuous process improvement initiatives.
- Implement and monitor KPIs for material handling performance, including receiving accuracy, pick rate, material availability, and inventory turns.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized warehouse environment in compliance with company policies and safety standards.
- Drive continuous improvement efforts focused on reducing material waste, improving handling practices, and increasing operational efficiency.
- Support ERP/MRP system accuracy and leverage technology to improve material visibility and tracking.
Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or a related field preferred. Equivalent experience may be considered.
- 5+ years of experience in materials management or warehouse operations in a manufacturing or production environment.
- Proven leadership and team management experience, with the ability to train, motivate, and develop staff.
- Strong understanding of material flow principles, lean manufacturing, and just‑in‑time (JIT) practices.
- Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Excellent organizational, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment and adapt to changing priorities.
Skills and Qualifications
- Experience with barcode/RFID inventory systems.
- Knowledge of ISO, OSHA, or other regulatory requirements.
- Familiarity with Six Sigma or Lean tools and methodologies.
- Ability to stand or sit for extended periods.
- Ability to bend, stoop, or crouch in uncomfortable positions to reach various parts.
- Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling 25/50/80 pounds regularly.
- Ability to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces.
- Ability to respond quickly to sounds and see and respond to dangerous situations.
- Ability to work in extreme weather and wear personal protective gear correctly for much of the day.
