Research Technician – Rodents Department

The Stowers Institute for Medical Research has an opening for a Research Technician to support the Rodents Department. This position plays a vital role in maintaining high standards of animal care and supporting research through effective animal husbandry and colony management.

• Maintain and monitor animal husbandry, health, and physical environments across various animal care settings.
• Monitor and maintain rodent research colonies including breeding and expansion.
• Perform various procedures such as injections, blood, and tissue collection in accordance with established protocols.
• Assist researchers with restraint, handling, and manipulation of rodents in a controlled environment.
• Ensure compliance with institutional policies and animal welfare standards.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment
• Physical capability to lift and move 50–100 pounds, as well as sit, stand, and move throughout animal facilities
• Proficiency in using scientific equipment and computers
• Strong attention to detail and accurate recordkeeping skills

Associate’s Degree or equivalent education/experience

AALAS certification and prior experience in animal handling, husbandry, and production.

This position involves hands-on work in animal care environments and requires adherence to strict safety, cleanliness, and animal welfare standards.
