Meat Manager

Position Objective:
To assist customers in their shopping experience by leading all aspects of the Meat team in a way that not only promotes growth for the company but also results in a team that delivers the product and service Cosentino customers have come to expect. To provide our customers with quality smoked meats on a daily basis. This individual will also be responsible for receiving, stocking, packaging, and displaying meat products in the Meat Department.

Will also assist customers both at the meat counter and with the smoked products.

Reporting Structure:
This position formally reports to the Store Director.

Status:
This is a non-exempt position.

The following is a list of any certifications, formal education, or training requirements for this position.

• A valid driver’s license is required for deliveries.
• A food handling permit must be obtained within the first 14 days of employment.
• Minimum of (1) year previous experience working in a retail meat setting is required.
• Must meet the training and experience requirements for a Journeyman Meat Cutter status within the first 2 years of employment (applies to both union and non-union settings).
• Completion of ongoing training and development as listed on the Cosentino Learning Plan.
• A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.

The following is a list of the basic skill requirements for this position.

• Able to effectively set and implement strategy for achieving operational excellence within the department (i.e. labor management, profit and sales analysis, etc.), as well as implement operational goals set at the corporate level.
• Clearly communicate to team members the goals that have been set for the department, then implement plans to reach the set goals.
• Provide direct supervision of the activities of all other members of the team in a manner that is operationally effective, but is also motivating and respectful.
• Promote a positive overall team atmosphere that includes cooperation and teamwork, high morale, positive interpersonal interactions and communications, and recognition for a job well done.
• Conduct effective interviews to hire the highest quality candidates for the team.
• Provide effective coaching, corrective actions, and performance evaluations to improve individual and team performance.
• Address employee relations issues and, if needed, effectively work with the Human Resource team to resolve issues.
• Create schedules that effectively manage labor costs in a way that successfully balances the customer’s need for service with the company’s need to closely monitor expenditures.
• Promote new items and weekly specials through effective merchandising and creative displays.
• Follow all guidelines on the proper techniques of cutting and/or preparing items for placement in the display cases. Smoke various meats to be sold in the store.
• Monitor all product expiration dates and ensure that all items are properly rotated.
• Be knowledgeable about department items, procedures and policies so customer questions can be answered accurately and courteously.
• Resolve customer complaints in a professional manner and recognize when it is appropriate to involve a member of the store management team.
• Know and implement the Cosentino Customer Service Standards.
• Monitor products for any damaged, un-saleable, or returnable products that should be removed and follow proper procedures for damage claims.
