Public Safety Officer

Overview

Public Safety Officer (also referred to as Hospital Security Officer or Healthcare Security Officer) will perform security duties including electronic surveillance and routine manual patrols to ensure the safety of St. Joseph Medical Center in Kansas City, MO. The role coordinates responses to incidents involving patients, staff, and visitors while enforcing policies fairly and consistently. Collaboration with the Environment of Care Committee supports a multidisciplinary approach to safety and security.

Shift: Evenings (8‑hour shifts, 2:00 pm–10:00 pm)

Employment type: Full‑time, Non‑exempt

Location: St. Joseph Medical Center, Kansas City, MO

Hiring :

• Access control and patrols: monitor entrances, exits, and restricted areas; conduct regular interior and exterior patrols to deter theft, violence, or unsafe behavior.
• Emergency response: respond to emergency codes and assist with crowd control, evacuation, or containment as needed.
• De‑escalation and conflict management: intervene in disruptive situations using de‑escalation techniques to calm agitated patients or visitors, often collaborating with clinical staff.
• Patient and visitor assistance: escort patients or visitors safely through the facility, provide directions, and assist with lost‑and‑found or personal property issues.
• Incident documentation: write detailed reports on incidents, accidents, or safety hazards and report findings to supervisors or risk management.

Requirements:

• State Guard Certification Registration Card required.
• High School Diploma or Equivalent required.

Preferred:

• Experience in healthcare security or related field preferred.

Facility specific:

• State driver’s license upon hire.
• Current DMV H6 report or Driving History Report.
