Job OverviewLead Firearms Instructors (LFIs) are the first point of contact for Federal Flight Deck Officers when they arrive at the training venue. They are responsible for checking the officers in, verifying weapons and credentials, conducting training, and overseeing the course of fire at the gun‑range. LFIs ensure the safety of all personnel on the range and secure Sensitive Security Information (SSI) and Sensitive Personally Identifying Information (SPII) during and after requalification sessions.
Key Responsibilities- Check in Federal Flight Deck Officers and verify weapons and credentials before training.
- Conduct classroom instruction and deliver the approved TSA training and safety brief.
- Introduce and describe new equipment, ensuring all students understand and sign the safety briefing.
- Maintain an instructor/student ratio of 1:6 for each training session.
- Ensure sufficient inventory of training supplies is on hand for monthly requalification sessions.
- Accurately score targets, complete administrative forms, and collect training data.
- Sign and certify qualification scores for all officers and manage non‑qualifying cases per protocol.
- Secure SSI and SPII in compliance with TSA MD 2100.2, Privacy and Information Collection Policy, and TSA MD 1400.3.
- Oversee time‑keeping of all SFI labor hours and comply with internal compliance training events.
- Current or former federal law‑enforcement agent, officer, or civilian employee with a recognized federal firearms instructor training program (e.g., FLETC FITP, FAMS, FBI/DEA, U.S. Postal Inspectors).
- Successfully completed a 2‑3 day firearms re‑qualification training program under the technical direction of SAC, FAMS Training Division, and the FFDO Program Office.
- Minimum of 5 years of firearms training experience.
- Associate’s degree or equivalent combination of education, technical certifications, or work/military experience.
- Ability to work at indoor or outdoor gun ranges, handle weapons and ammunition, and wear hearing protection.
- Successful completion of a security application and background investigation clearance prior to starting.
- Exposure to high volumes of noise and gun‑powder; must wash hands after handling ammunition.
- Work may require physical effort in handling light materials, boxes, or equipment.
- Schedule:
8 weekly hours, on‑call; travel not required; onsite work location in Kansas City, MO.
