A Landscape Technician is responsible for caring for plants, shrubs, trees, and other foliage in gardens. The job may also include designing and installing new gardens and peripheral building structures such as walkways, bridges, or walls. The role involves field operations within an eight city-block area of mixed-use retail, office, entertainment, and residential developments, ensuring proper use of resources, equipment, and materials to maximize work completion.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Ensures all work is completed in adherence to aesthetic requirements and complies with safety policies and guidelines.
- Conducts regular inspections of plantings to identify and rectify sub‑standard installations or repair damage caused by visitors or large events.
- Maintains proper inventory of materials, equipment, and supplies needed for production activities.
- Reports to the supervisor to order and procure materials, equipment, and supplies as needed.
- Maintains sufficient staff to accomplish production schedules and analyzes future needs, forecasting staff and material requirements for upcoming jobs.
- Available to assist other divisions as required.
- Maintains a high level of housekeeping and care of company assets in the field, vehicles, shop, and work‑sites.
- Stays aware of best practices, developing and recommending improved work methods and standards.
- Extended hours during seasonal planting and occasional after‑hours work may be required.
- Other duties assigned.
- Operation and control – controlling operations of equipment or systems.
- Strong attention to detail, follow‑up, and excellent organizational skills.
- Strong sense of urgency, adaptability, flexibility, and resourcefulness.
- Ability to function professionally under pressure.
- Personal tact, discretion, and good judgment; excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
No supervisory responsibility.
Education- High school degree required; associate degree in related field preferred but not required.
- Two years of landscape maintenance experience, preferably in a commercial environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid driver’s license required to operate company vehicles.
Landscape Technicians should be capable of standing, walking, kneeling, and crouching for long periods, and of carrying heavy stones, slates, bags of fertilizer and grass seed, and other items used in landscape care and design.
Environmental ConditionsThe work environment may be busy and noisy; excellent organizational, time‑management, and stress‑management skills are required. Exposure to all outdoor elements is necessary.
