SummaryThe Lead Mechanic oversees the maintenance tasks in the service, repair, and overhaul of aircraft to insure airworthiness. Ensures timely completion of tasks and provides training and mentorship for an assigned function area. Assists with Maintenance Supervisor responsibilities for short periods of time.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities- Ensure all tasks are promptly completed in compliance with federal regulations, customer guidelines and company policies.
- Review required customer and FAA paperwork to ensure proper maintenance updates and compliance with applicable regulations and customer requirements.
- Lead the maintenance, preventative maintenance, or alteration of, or approve and return to service, any aircraft, or part thereof, only for which that Lead is rated and has satisfactorily performed the work concerned at an earlier date.
- Perform maintenance tasks as required and become an active member of the crew.
- Conduct crew meetings to ensure communication regarding work, safety, and quality.
- Use technical data to order parts and ensure material is effective for aircraft being installed on. Ensure all parts for specialty area are ordered in a timely manner.
- Ensure Engineering is submitted in timely manner as needed.
- Responsible for keeping all assigned areas clean and audit ready. Identify and eliminate hazards that pose a risk to employee safety and quality of work. Ensure compliance with safety requirements.
- Responsible for on-time delivery in assigned skill set in coordination with other skill sets.
- Monitor and correct routine and non-routine labor hours prior to exceeding allotted estimated hours.
- Notify Supervisor of variations in labor requirements to ensure most efficient utilization of labor and resources and to avoid low when possible.
- Answer questions from customers as needed.
- Responsible for setting timeframe expectations with technicians on task card accomplishment.
- Oversee On-the-Job Training (OJT) to provide learning opportunities through work assignment and mentoring.
- Recommend changes to processes to improve efficiencies and workflow.
- Comply with, communicates, and provide guidance to team members on ATS policies, procedures and Safety Management System (SMS) requirements. Promote "Balanced Technician" concept.
- Mentor and develop technical and leadership skills of the mechanics.
- Communicate with Supervisor all information on assigned employees including disciplinary problems. May deliver or give input with performance evaluations on assigned employees.
- Provide regular feedback and performance coaching including appropriate management of time, prioritizing tasks, and ensuring proper knowledge and training to accomplish assignments to all members of assigned crew.
- Minimum of four (4) years’ recent commercial aircraft maintenance and/or MRO experience preferred.
- Applicable Repairman, Airframe, or Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) certification required.
