Heavy Equipment & Diesel Mechanic

Location: Kansas City, MO
Job Type: Direct Hire
Starting Pay: $23.00/hour, with higher pay available depending on experience
Travel: Up to 50%
Sign-On Bonus: $2,500 after 3 months

Position Overview

Seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment & Diesel Mechanic to keep heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, cranes, and other motorized equipment operating safely and reliably. This role involves routine maintenance, troubleshooting, field repairs, and emergency service.

Responsibilities
  • Diagnose mechanical problems and complete repairs on heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, cranes, and related machinery
    .
  • Perform preventive maintenance and respond to urgent repair needs.
  • Review repair priorities and coordinate work with the maintenance team.
  • Gather required parts, tools, and equipment for assigned repairs.
  • Complete work orders with mileage, operating hours, repairs, and other required details.
  • Respond to emergency service calls and communicate critical equipment issues.
  • Work efficiently to reduce equipment downtime.
  • Maintain shop tools, equipment, and work areas.
  • Follow safety procedures and applicable regulations.
  • Perform other mechanical and maintenance duties as needed.
Requirements
  • 5+ years of heavy equipment and/or trailer/crane maintenance experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in at least two additional technical areas
    , such as:
    • Hydraulics
    • Electronics
    • Small engines
    • Other related mechanical systems
  • High school diploma/GED plus trade school, vocational training, or equivalent diesel/mechanical experience.
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet urgent repair deadlines.
  • Good communication and organizational skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
  • Professional heavy equipment maintenance certifications are a plus.
Travel & Schedule
  • Up to 50% travel
    , including out-of-town and out-of-state assignments.
  • Must be available 24/7 for emergency calls
    .
  • Extended hours may be required based on operational needs.
  • Ability to work outdoors and in changing weather conditions.
Physical Requirements
  • Frequent bending, twisting, stooping, walking, and lifting.
  • Ability to perform hands-on mechanical work for extended periods.
  • Regularly lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Assistance required for items weighing more than 75 lbs.
  • Ability to safely perform work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
