Position Overview

The Night Driver Lead plays a key leadership role in overseeing nightly transportation operations, ensuring that routes are executed safely, efficiently, and on schedule. This position combines dispatch, driver supervision, DOT compliance, and equipment coordination to maintain seamless overnight operations. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator with proven leadership experience, a deep understanding of DOT regulations, and a hands‑on approach to solving problems in real time.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Dispatch and supervise all night drivers and hostlers to ensure timely departures, efficient routes, and safe operations.
  • Prepare daily route packets, fueling records, and trip documentation for all routes.
  • Verify that all drivers have completed required 10‑hour breaks or 34‑hour resets and have certified prior‑day logs.
  • Track and trace all routes throughout the night, ensuring deliveries stay on schedule.
  • Communicate closely with warehouse and operations teams to confirm loading times, equipment readiness, and route completion.
  • Handle nighttime equipment issues and coordinate service calls with third‑party providers as needed.
  • Monitor shuttle and route departures to ensure on‑time performance.
  • Spot‑check trailer loading and equipment for accuracy and safety.
  • Train, coach, and evaluate drivers on company policies, safety procedures, and DOT compliance.
  • Maintain fueling and maintenance records; perform light vehicle maintenance when necessary.
  • Prepare and maintain reports, driver logs, and other transportation documentation.
  • Lead by example—driving local routes (straight truck or tractor‑trailer) when operationally required.
  • Support a positive work environment through communication, accountability, and recognition.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Valid CDL B (CDL A preferred) with a clean driving record (no more than 2 moving violations in the past 5 years).
  • Minimum 2 years of CDL driving experience and 1 year of supervisory or dispatch experience.
  • Strong knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, state, and federal transportation regulations.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and route management/tracking software.
  • Ability to remain calm and decisive under pressure, especially in overnight operations.
  • Strong organizational skills and high attention to detail.
  • Must be dependable, self‑motivated, and comfortable leading a night shift team.

Shift: 7:00 PM – 4:00 AM

Compensation:
Up to $65,000 annually (based on experience)

Work Environment & Physical Demands

This role operates primarily in a professional transportation and warehouse environment. Regular standing, walking, and occasional lifting (up to 85 lbs.) may be required. Must be able to work in variable temperatures and remain on‑site through the duration of the night shift.
