HERZL

CAMP MISSION

Herzl Camp is a welcoming, independent camp where young people become self-reliant, create lasting Jewish friendships, and develop a commitment and love for Judaism and Israel. Herzl Camp creates a vibrant Jewish community of future leaders.

CORE VALUES
  • We make connections and nurture our Herzl family.
  • We are pluralistic in our Judaism; we embrace the people, the land, the State, and the story of Israel.
  • We provide tools, training, and the opportunity to lead, transforming campers and staff into tomorrow’s passionate Jewish leaders.
  • We celebrate individuality and inclusion, encouraging everyone to be part of something bigger than themselves.
  • We embrace ongoing and intergenerational shared experiences – from the ridiculous to the sublime – to foster lasting friendships, build identity, community and a sense of belonging throughout our lives.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Jewish & Israel Education Vision Grounded in Herzl’s mission and values, this role brings Jewish and Israel education to life in ways that inspire curiosity, connection and pride, helping campers and staff strengthen their sense of Jewish identity and belonging – at camp and beyond. Develop a comprehensive, experiential approach to Jewish education that meets campers and staff where they are, nurtures personal growth, and ensures they leave camp with a deeper sense of Jewish identity and connection to Israel.
  • Content & Programming Evaluate existing themes and Tochniot (programs), expanding and evolving them to spark engagement. Lead, mentor, and empower the Chinuch (Education) Team to create and lead engaging and interactive programming. Model and guide staff how to weave Jewish learning and values into day to day camp moments. Partner with and elevate Israeli staff to share their stories and perspectives through creative programming, including Yom Yisrael, making Israel engagement more personal.
  • Shabbat and Holidays Oversee services, rituals, and Shabbat related programs so they are engaging and participatory. Engage staff to ensure the Shabbat experience carries through from Friday night services through Havdalah (meals, programming, etc.). Encourage and support campers and staff in taking ownership of Shabbat by leading prayers, discussions, songs.
  • Strengthen Community Engagement Build relationships with visiting clergy, educators, and community leaders to collaborate on meaningful and engaging learning experiences for campers and staff. Partner with Jewish and Israel-focused organizations that align with Herzl’s core values to enhance programming.
